what really good job applications should be like ...
52a good job application will get you an interview easily
... and how you can star at presenting them!
most people find themselves online, strolling through all these different sites, looking for job openings. some dont even need a new job, they are "just curious what's out there right now". think its true? well, I dont. people are generally dissatisfied with what they already have in life. and hey, its human nature to constantly strive for development.
good job applications take a good amount of time and lots of attention to detail. its a challenging task, and knowing that their is a lot of competition out there (especially these days) doesnt really help the progress.
here is my advice:
- if you do find the job opening you been looking for (or even starting at for days, contemplating whether you should give it a shot or not), first thing you need is the motivation to get up and take the initiative to apply for it!
- take your latest CV and check whats on it. see, if the way you had written it before suits the job you are aiming at, and whether it could use some extra touches in terms of design and presentation.
- start modifying it, add and remove details, make it fit the job you want to apply for.
- whether you send it out via email or mail (which is rather old fashioned, most people wouldnt take the time to look at their physical mail any more ...) make sure you present it professionally. hotcow123@gmail.com doesnt really carry a nice note.
- once you've submitted your details, get back online and inform yourself about the job duties and description (if you havent done so yet). also research possible interview questions.
- now for a few days from then, if the phone rings and its an unknown number, do not refuse to pick up like usual. take it, assuming that it could be your future boss on the other line.
- as for the job interview, be as flexible as possible when it comes to timing. pick a date/time thats good for both of you, leave your place 30 min earlier than you would usually do - to avoid being late, dress professionally (oh, dont forget proper grooming!) and have copies of your documents neatly printed with you.
- dont be scared, but I know you will be. have a firm handshake, keep eye contact, smile, and remember those questions you had practiced before. also, have a note pad ready and take notes of what your interviewer tells you.
- once you get home, get back on your computer and send that person you just spoke to a thank you email for taking his time to sit and talk to you. how charming!
this is it! til here you have done everything possible in your power to get that job you seek. its on them to hire you, but I am sure that - following the tips - you'd have good chances to be the number one candidate!

You should make sure to proofread everything when you send your resume or apply for a position online. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation all matter and depending on the job requirements (for example, attention to detail is required) it could be a reason to exclude you from being considered for the position.
